SXSW: Catch performances by Phony Ppl, Megan Thee Stallion & Winnipeg’s Taylor Janzen

If you’re in Austin this week for SXSW 2019, our friends over at No Big Deal have some suggested some great acts to check out.


Phony Ppl

Brooklyn-group Phony Ppl will be promoting their new album mozaik at a pair of events taking place this coming Wednesday, Mar. 13, and Thursday, Mar. 14. On Wednesday, catch them on the StubHub Sound Stage at Banger’s Sausage House for a set starting at 5 p.m. If you’re looking to see them the next day instead (or maybe both), head to Mohawk in Austin (912 Red River St.) for the BrooklynVegan Day Party. They’re on at 4:15 p.m.

Megan Thee Stallion

Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion, the first female rapper singed to 300 Entertainment, is currently promoting her latest single, “Big Ole Freak.” You can catch her at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 14 at the NYLON/SheShreds Showcase taking place at Cheer Up Charlies (900 Red River St.), or during the FADER FORT Showcase taking place at 1501 E 7th St. (8 p.m. start time).

Taylor Janzen

Winnipeg singer-songwriter Taylor Janzen is one of several Canadians representing the Greath North at SXSW. She’s currently promoting her debut EP, Interpersonal, and her latest track, “New Mercies.” Janzen will be performing three times during the festival including this coming Thursday, Mar. 14 inside Bungalow (92 Rainey St.) at the Canada House Showcase, on Friday, Mar. 15 inside Four Seasons Lawn (98 Jacinto Boulevard) at the BMI Brunch (10:55 a.m.), and later that same day during the Rolling Stone Showcase taking place at the Native Hotel (807 E 4th St.). Janzen takes the stage at 8 p.m. for that one.
