YBN Cordae talks Childhood, Top 3, Wanting to be the GOAT, Dropping Out of College to Rap

Hard Knock Tv’s Nick Huff Barili sits down with YBN Cordae for in-depth interview at Truth Studios. In part 1, Cordae and Nick talk about his childhood, growing up between North Carolina, South Carolina and Maryland. Cordae shares how curiosity about the beef between Nas and Jay-Z lead him to Youtube and there through the recommended section he was exposed to a lot of rappers that influenced him including, Nas, Big L and Kool G Rap. That’s when he fell in love with the art of Hip Hop. Cordae goes on to say that Eminem, Big L and Nas are his top 3. Although he starting rapping at 5, he didn’t write his first rhyme until he was 10 years old. Cordae shares his first rhyme and tells us that back then he used to go by the rap name Entendre, which he changed a couple years ago to go by his given name. The Pro Era crew including Joey Badass and Capital Steez (RIP) are who mainly influence Cordae to want to be a rapper himself. In an era where Chief Keef and trap was dominating the radio, Cordae resonated more with what Joey and Steez were doing. Part 1 ends with Cordae talking about wanting to go to college to be the first in his family to do so but that ones he was there he realized that he wanted to focus his attention on rapping full time which he couldn’t do working his way through college.
